Joseph Anthony Verdino Jr., Field of Dreams Foundation

The foundation mission is to build a state of the art baseball stadium at South Shore Little League and to help improve little league and community baseball fields throughout Staten Island and all of New York City. The heart of our mission is to give back to our community, which has given us so much. Joseph's love and passion were baseball. Wherever Joseph went, he always had his ball and glove with him. Joseph loved the community that he lived in. He loved his school P.S. 3, and of course South Shore Little League. They have all given us so much, before, during and after this tragic event. Joseph's nature was to give, and now he wants to give back.

To honor Joseph in a way he so deserves, would be to do something that would be a reflection of his giving ways. By building this baseball stadium, we would be recognizing both Joseph's love for baseball and the community in which he lived.  By improving baseball fields throughout the city, we will be doing something for children who share the love of baseball as Joseph did.

Our goal is to provide athletic opportunities for children that will inspire them in a positive manner.  Lessons learned on the field are life lessons that will help steer children as they grow. Youth sports teach children hard work, how to be a teammate, how to communicate, not to be afraid, self discipline and how to lose. Team sports builds character and provides children with opportunities that will benefit them both on and off the field.   Investing in our children is a worthy cause for any donor.

As I would tell Joseph each day, "Joe, you're a superstar", I can truly say that he is. Joseph is a superstar now and always.  Joseph always made you laugh and smile. So many people, both young and old, have such a great love for him as he attracted so many wonderful people toward him. His character set a standard of grace and strength. I know Joseph is here with us now, and he is the inspiration for the "Field of Dreams".  "Joseph, you are our hero, and we love you more than words can say".
